Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is almost here. Activision and Infinity Ward are preparing to launch the next entry in the Modern Warfare series on October 23, 2026, bringing a new military campaign, competitive multiplayer and the return of the extraction-focused DMZ experience.
Players who have digitally pre-ordered the game can already jump into the full campaign, with DMZ early access scheduled to begin on October 20.
A New War Begins in Korea
Modern Warfare 4 tells a new chapter in the franchise’s ongoing military storyline. The campaign centres on a full-scale invasion of the Korean Peninsula, where a squad of South Korean soldiers fights to survive as the conflict threatens to spread across the world.
Meanwhile, Captain John Price is pursuing his own mission from the shadows. As the two storylines collide, players will face a conflict that extends far beyond the initial invasion.
The campaign takes players across several international locations, including Korea, New York, Paris and Mumbai. Activision promises a mix of large-scale combat, close-quarters engagements, high-speed chases and special forces operations.
Campaign Early Access Is Available Now
Players who digitally pre-ordered or pre-purchased any edition can access the complete campaign before the worldwide launch.
The campaign includes 16 missions and unlockable rewards that can be used in other game modes after the full release. These include operator characters, calling cards, emblems and double XP tokens.
Campaign early access is available until the official launch on October 23.
DMZ Returns on October 20
One of the most interesting additions is the return of DMZ as part of Modern Warfare 4.
The extraction-based mode sends players behind enemy lines to complete objectives, collect valuable resources and decide when to leave the battlefield. Each deployment involves balancing risk and reward: stay longer to pursue more objectives, or extract before things go wrong.
DMZ early access is scheduled for October 20 for eligible players, three days before the full launch.
What About Multiplayer?
Multiplayer remains a major part of the Modern Warfare experience. Activision describes the new entry as focusing on grounded gunplay, precise combat, fluid movement and greater control over engagements.
The game is also expected to appeal to players who enjoy building loadouts, mastering weapons and competing across different maps and modes. More details about the long-term multiplayer experience will become clearer as players get their hands on the full release.
Platforms and Release Date
Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to launch worldwide on Friday, October 23, 2026.
The confirmed platforms are:
- PlayStation 5
- Xbox Series X|S
- PC via Steam, Battle.net and Xbox on PC
- Nintendo Switch 2
The game will not be released for PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
Activision has also confirmed that Modern Warfare 4 will not be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch.
Is Modern Warfare 4 Worth Watching?
With campaign early access already underway and DMZ arriving shortly, the next few days should give players a better idea of what Modern Warfare 4 delivers.
The combination of a new international conflict, familiar characters and an extraction-based mode could make this a significant release for Call of Duty fans. However, the real test will be the quality of the campaign, multiplayer balance, server performance and how well DMZ holds up once large numbers of players join.
For now, the countdown is on: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23, 2026.
